How to track update in firebase?

Good afternoon, I started to study react native and decided to write a chat using firebase realtime database, but the question is how to correctly track changes in the database and show it to the application, while the only option is to make a request to firebase in setInterval and check if there are changes or not, but I understand that this is a bad decision.
