How to track down the cause of a Windows 7 freeze?

If there was a BSOD, then everything is clear. But what to do when the OS completely stops responding and only the Power button saves? At first, some programs do not respond, then you can no longer switch between windows, then nothing works except the mouse cursor, and at the end the mouse freezes. All this is accompanied by a monotonous blinking once per second of the hard disk activity indicator (yes, I checked the disk for errors, no problems were found). The event log is empty, the system does not have time to write anything there.

Like I wrote. It was like this a couple of years ago. Most likely, it was in Windows, it just got crooked.

It is worth putting a new disk and working on it.
