How to test a new computer for stability?

Hello habra community!
I think that each of you, in view of your passion for IT, faced such a seemingly banal issue as testing a new computer for a friend, neighbor, grandmother (which you yourself had the honor to choose for him / her). Some start to run all sorts of benchmarks and games on it, others start playing full-hd movies, after putting the laptop on the pillow :) ... Everyone has their own algorithm of actions.
What is your %username%?

I don't usually test new cars. Unless there are suspicions of problems. Laziness - I have too many of them.
1 - first of all I look at the capacitors on the motherboard. Not really a test, but this is the first thing I do when I suspect problems with iron.
2 - the first thing I check without a screwdriver is the memtest from the beast. It helps not only for memory - if it spins for two hours without errors, then this is also an indicator of performance.
3 - indicators of voltages and temperatures in the BIOS and in Windows. The stability of indicators, the actual adequacy of numbers.
4 - the oldest test for stability is to install Windows on the machine being tested. Do not upload an image from a similar machine with Acronis, but install it. Installing Windows affects a lot of things, both memory and hard and everything else. It is advisable to listen to sounds. Sometimes you can hear suspicious sounds from the hard drive, but this is already experience and luck.
5 - it happens very indicatively if obviously correct drivers are not installed for this or that equipment. Often faced with the fact that the video seems to work, but the drivers are not installed. A detailed check reveals hardware problems.
6 - another classic - 3D toys. Haven't used in a long time because I don't have them. Ideally, it gives a check of the video and a general load test. Usually, after loading, we immediately look at the temperature.
7 - testing by replacing suspected modules is also a classic. Example - we have glitches. 10 minutes of memtest gave no errors. We change the memory bar. Glitches disappear. We drive the bar in a greater load and still find bugs.
8 - for preventive testing, do not forget about broken pixels. lazy test - expand the white background to full screen. Looking out. Further, the same with a black background (not to be confused with a turned off screen or a signal.) If there is no background, and you are too lazy to shaman, you can take something close and move it.
9 - it is often useful to test such a part of the system as the voltage in the outlet. Well, it would be nice, of course, to check the gasket between the chair and the keyboard, but that's another story ...
10 - in general, my choice is "trust the SC". New machines must come with output control, since normal integrators have stands and all that. And at the exit - localized the problem, and sent the block or machine to the Service Center. It is necessary to work with the SC in such a way that they do not deceive. It is clear that if you are an employee of the SC, then this option is not for you, but then you also have POST cards, and you don’t ask such questions ...

Run md5 150 times from a 50 GB file. If it burns out, then the ventilation needs to be changed. Disks - do dd if = / dev / zero or some cat / dev / sda1 into a file, tar archives would be nice to drive. You can run some set of tests for random reading from disk. Usually discs fly out either immediately or after a long period of time.

Well, if it is fundamentally so, then for a stationary computer I think it will be enough if you run something of medium severity on it and leave it to work for two days. That would be enough for me to know that everything is working normally enough.
For a laptop, I liked the option with FullHD and a pillow. I think it's more than okay. And of course, you need to check the battery to see if the manufacturer is keeping his word.

For load, I use OCCTPT or Everest Stability test, a couple of hours is enough to understand whether the iron is pulling and keeping the temperature. Also memtest for memory. A CrystalDiskMark hard drive to test speed, and a video with some toy of suitable power.

RMAA - to check the sound card, speakers, amplifier.
3DMark - for video, processor and RAM.
HD Tune - for hard drives.
internet.yandex.ru and the like - to check the width of the Internet channel.
cpuburn + speenfun - to configure and check cooling.
well, MEMTest

I run memtest for several hours, sometimes with cpuburn.
memtest once allowed me to find out that on a used laptop both memory sticks were broken. Prior to this, the laptop periodically freezes for no reason, after replacing the memory for 1.5 years it works without problems, even somehow the home video archive encoded for days.

With new computers at work and at home, immediately after assembling and checking what just does start, I definitely run memtest and mhdd. After them I install Windows (if for myself I put it first so that the bootloader does not lose it, but at work I limit myself to it, unfortunately), if the Windows got up without problems - in principle, by this moment it is already more or less clear that the PC is working. If I need to bake it, I put it where it will stand and run the bench from Futuremark, not always the last one, only if the hardware is powerful and there is the last bench at hand.
In it, you can load the percent and the video, and put tests in the cycle, well, play a bit in the 3D mini-game =)
