Mint does not fall asleep, but at the same time, for some reason, it still turns off WiFi, and then, when the lid is opened, it is in no hurry to connect it back.

Check the power saving mode in the control panel. As far as I remember, in addition to the standby mode, there is also the "Turn off WiFi during idle" or "when the lid is closed" mode.
UPD: Network settings - Wireless network - your network options - network security and tick "available to all users".
