It is required to write a plugin that will support both versions 2.3 and 3.0 in OpenCart. The versions themselves are not backward compatible, so the question is how this is usually done.

Start here . Look at the simple module, it just works like this, regardless of the version. It has its own layer for using the engine functions, it is cross-versioned.
