How to store POST data into a variable?

I found a function in the fastcgi library for outputting from a stream.
FCGX_GetChar(request.in)
I'm trying to use it to accept a csv file sent via POST (multipart/formdata). The function displays left numbers instead of data. Maybe the data needs to be decoded?
