Google better. Everything has already been chewed on the toaster more than once. Though bubunta, even Venda, even poppy, there is no difference. Installed Oracle JDK, registered JAVA_HOME and forward. There are a bunch of articles on how to do this in ubuntu. IDE to your taste, but the standard now is IDEA. The most up-to-date resource is Oracle documentation. From books - Horstman, Eckel, Bloch + Schildt as a reference. How to be, what to do? Write code, first examples from books, then something of your own. For example, write a file server to which you can upload files via ftp, android app, web-face and SOAP - try everything.
