How to split an edge at an arbitrary location in Blender?
I just started to master Blender, I already searched through the mana, but I didn’t find what I was looking for. If we select an edge, press "w" and use the "subdivide" tool, the program subdivides the edge into multiples by adding one or more equidistant vertices. But I need to add a new vertex on this edge in an arbitrary place, and not exactly on half of the edge. How the hell do you do it???

Well, in principle, you can do this:
1. Select an edge.
2. subdivide. The vertex will appear in the center.
3. Select the vertex.
4. Press Shift + V (Mesh -> Vertices -> Slide) and drag the vertex to the right place.
I did everything in Blender 2.71.
... I think that subdiv is the most practical tool ...
... but you can cut it right away with a knife in place, then it's unnecessary to drag ..
