And then in a complex design and on weak machines slows down.
Is there a way to do this with transform3D?

In any case, the chrome timeline, unlike your version, now shows values no lower than ~60fps. Still need to try though.
As for the acceleration... well, since you change the height of the block, the entire page will be redrawn, so it won't help much. Only if you set the 3D transformation to zero for the entire block of the parent.
