How to speed up git operations?

There is ubuntu on virtualbox, it has a clone of the project, shared via samba. All of this runs on an SSD.
Tortoisegit takes more than a minute to fetch commit files, which I think is a bit long. How can I speed up git?
Somewhere I read a mention that you can make a local clone of the project, but I don’t understand how local changes will get to the server?
It seems that IDEs somehow solve this problem, but I don't use them.
I would be grateful to those who explain or give a link to the article.
ps files in the project ~90k. Maybe I want too much? :)
