How to solve nbformat support issue in python 2.5?

When I run ipython notebook it says:

Unreadable Notebook: Unsupported JSON nbformat version 4 (supported version: 3)

Installed json latest, pip python also latest. I googled for solutions, but didn't find anything. The proposed options are mainly for the 3rd version. Needed for the 2nd.
OS: linux mint 17

The problem was solved by using another OS Debian 8.2 where there were newer packages.
