How to solve GUI freezing problem?

Good afternoon,
The problem is this: the graphical shell on Ubuntu 14.4 hangs periodically. It goes to the console, but I don't see the console. I reboot
. I tried to install drivers on Nvidia gtx 550 to replace X, but it stops working in Ubuntu.
