How to solve a problem with MySQL on VDS?

I'm renting a VDS server, at one point they stopped opening the database list in ISP Manager. Error: Failed to connect to database '

' Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

The support service replied that the innoDB tables were damaged and this was not in their competence. Please help solve the problem

The fastest way to resolve a problem is to

1. verify that this is true according to the logs
   
2. just in case, make a backup copy of the directory/var/lib/mysql
   
3. reinstall MySQL server packages
   
4. restore database from backup
