How to setup motion autoload on ubuntu?

I started using Linux quite recently, there were difficulties with the motion package
1) after rebooting the home server, the /var/run/motion folder disappears
2) I don’t know how to make motion start itself at system startup,
here is a clipping from motion.conf

# Start in daemon (background) mode and release terminal (default: off)
daemon on

# File to store the process ID, also called pid file. (default: not defined)
process_id_file /var/run/motion/motion.pid

added 2 lines to rc.local

sudo mkdir /var/run/motion
sudo motion start

the problem was solved, but another question arose, is this solution to the problem considered normal or can it be done somehow more correctly?
