How to setup gre tunnel in open vSwitch for VMs?

Good afternoon.
I am solving a new task for myself:
There are 2 virtual machines, open vSwitch is configured on them (configured on both, mybridge, and a port on eth0)
How to properly connect this using the Gre tunnel ???
PS: There is a lot of information about this, but to be honest, I "drowned in the details", but there is no clear understanding.

why a tunnel if they are an ode in one switch, let them go directly
