How to set up webpack-dev-server on a project with laravel(php-server)?

There is a remote server on which a laravel project is installed, I work with it as follows: I created a local copy, synchronized via sftp. Installed webpack on the server with all necessary packages. The build builds normally, the question arose about setting up the dev mode, for a very long time I tried to set up the webpack-dev-server through a proxy, but nothing happened. Mb someone can share their config for devServer or suggest where to look?
