How to set up connections by local hostname?

Good day to all!
Somehow I came across a small server that I could get to (web and ssh) using the local host name.
That is, without any changes to the host file on my computer and DNS on the router, after connecting this server to my local network, I immediately opened the ego web interface.
How can this be implemented?

If the server supports Avahi/DNS-SD, then simply ssh/web to hostname.local, where hostname is the local hostname of this server.

Went in by hostname in windows = PC using netbios/smb/or other native protocols... got ip and remembered myself somewhere in datashit =) I
'm not sure if I can help, but I would try to solve it like this:
PC in the network - the name of the PC in the network is unique relative to the rest and the working group is the same (in general, there should be no problems in AD). By the way, this is important because if you change the name of the computer in the workgroup, the rest of the PCs will be ignored. We'll have to rename the working group back and forth.
2. services.msc , check the health of services:
DNS Client
Function Discovery Provider Host
Function Discovery Resource Publication
Peer Networking Grouping
HomeGroup Provider
HomeGroup Listener
· SSDP Discovery
· UPnP Device Host
3. Is NetBIOS over TCP/IP
enabled? 4. Try to enable SMB 1.0/CIFS in windows components.
If you have access to the server on which it worked and all of the above did not help, sniff out with wireshark what the trouble is. (Well, or drop a link to the log).
Look at the output of nbtstat -n, you can also reset the cache there if anything.
In general, netbios names also cling to arp, so you can try to scan the NetBScanner subnet (it's better to download from nirsoft.net)
