How to set up a network on windows 98?
Help to resolve the issue with the network on win98 (pentium 166mmx, 3com etherlink III). The bottom line is that I'm trying to get a dynamic address, 169.254.*.* is issued, which symbolizes that the dhcp server was not found. On the router, in the clients, I see the poppy address of the computer, but without the assigned address, and it is in the waiting status. Question of what? On the network card, the link and act indicators are on (one is on, the other is blinking) The same static does not work, the network is not visible. I would assume that the problem is probably in the new protocol versions used in modern routers, and win98 does not know how to work with something, but it seems nothing has changed since then, the standard is the standard.
Mikrotik router

It's a cool debug of you to look at the blinking of the bulbs, but look from the mikrotik what's going on?
At the same time, as far as I understand, the card does not know how to fast ethernet, but only 10 Mbps ethernet. And most likely there is a clear conflict of auto-negotiation speeds. At a minimum, it is worth setting 10Mbps hard on the Mikrotik side and dumping the traffic. If there is no dhcp discover, then the physics did not start.
