How to set extensions to default PHP on mac?

I can’t find anywhere what is the correct way to install extensions for php on macOS. There are a lot of threads about installing via brew, but as far as I understand this is for php, which was also installed via brew. I'm looking for a way to install PHP built into poppy. Can someone give me some advice on this matter? Thank you.
