How to set a short program name?

Decided to learn how to write bat-files. I learned that you can start firefox with the line , while you need to write the path to other programs. Accordingly, the questions are: 1. How can I find out if a particular program has a short name? 2. Is there a list of all such short names somewhere (in the mb registry)? 3. How to give your program a short name? 4.
