How to select an element from a list?

Can you please tell me how to select an element that is inside the "select" list? I tried to use the Select class, but it still throws an exception that the element was not found. If it's not difficult, please provide an example of a working code (preferably in java, but any one is possible), in which an element of the drop-down list is selected and clicked.
