How to securely encrypt a folder?

Guys, I need a reliable way to encrypt a folder in Windows. Creating a password-protected archive seems to be a level against other users, and veracrypt passwords partitions.

Is there a free open source program that can securely encrypt a folder?

Need to be baptized. This is the most reliable method. Only the password must be very complex, then even the FBI will not crack

First, Veracrypt does not necessarily encrypt an entire partition. You can create a container, which is a single file, and after decryption it is mounted to the FS, and you can throw junk there, as in a regular folder.
Secondly, an archive with a password is a completely reliable method. It encrypts the content with a strong algorithm, everything rests only on the strength of the password.

PGP (Pretty Good Privacy), no? Snowden bequeathed.

Suddenly - there is :) Even two. The choice is pgp and openssl. That's just one bad thing - you did not indicate who you are going to defend yourself from.
If from mom - rar with a password is enough.
If from the employer - enough conversation with the director of security (after which you will decipher everything yourself :) )
If from the state - a hot soldering iron in the #op is a very unpleasant thing, but it reveals any means of protection

NTFS supports file encryption and you can check "encrypted" on a folder, then all files in that folder will be encrypted.
But which method is best for you depends on how you work with files and folders and what attacks you want to protect against. If you hide porn from your mother, this is one thing, if some data from government agencies that can seize a disk is completely different, and most likely it is not eliminated by encryption of folders.
