How to secure Ubuntu when running on public Wi-Fi?

Good afternoon.
I'm using the latest version of Ubuntu. I have to use public Wi-Fi, which is used by about 100 other people besides me. How can I protect my system from being infiltrated through sharing? On Windows, I know, you can put "Public network" and the system itself will not let intruders anywhere. But how is it?
It is desirable for some rules for IPtables, I have a ban on all IPs, except for my VPN (therefore, I am only interested in the issue of access to FILES, protection of the connection and transmitted data is normal).
Or is there a way to completely disable the local network? so that no one has access to my files when I work with a public network
+ if it's not difficult, tell me how to be on Android (Zenfon, 5 android)

No way. Because unlike Windows, Ubuntu doesn't have network file access by default. Generally. No way.
