How to secure a commit in git?

I am finalizing the project for the customer, pushing the changes to his gitLab (I was just given access to their turnip). Now came the first time payment for my work. I'm afraid that after the fur, they can throw it (yes, we work without any contract)
Question: is it possible to somehow protect yourself in this situation?

Usually the result is provided to the customer without source codes. The customer checks the work, pays and receives the source code.
In this case, you can put in the logic of the project - the completion of work, for example, in a month. If the payment is made, this bookmark is removed from the sources.
If you provide the customer with everything at once, with source codes, then ask for an advance payment.
