How to search for similar images on the web?

Is there a service on the web to search for a picture by picture (as done in Google Images or Yandex Pictures), but with an API? I want to write a small laboratory work to the university and I would like to transfer a freshly taken picture from an Android device, search the network for similar pictures from a computer and send the results back to the device. Can't find the right service. Thanks in advance.
