How to search for interesting projects on GitHub?

I study programming. I would like to read the codes of existing projects, to observe the development from the outside. Probably the most popular hosting for open source projects right now is GitHub. But the search on this site is extremely inconvenient. Also a significant disadvantage is that there is no catalog of projects by category (as on sourceforge). As a result, the site, although it boasts of an indicator of 8.6M projects, is perceived as a big dump. Where and how to look for projects? Interested in small developments in the C language, the architecture of which can be comprehended by one person and practiced in programming on the fork.

No need to search on github.
You just need to choose an interesting project for yourself on the Internet, and then open it on github

There are sortings. Select "most starts" or "most forks".

As an option - watch the lessons on YouTube and there are links to the repositories.
The author has many more working projects, as a rule.
His contacts are open and the topic for communication is indicated, since "mentors-teachers" love feedback as much as passion.
