How to search for a file and a string in files on the server?

At the moment I am editing and finalizing several sites that are on different servers and in order to do something, you either need to download the entire project via ftp on your machine (which is very long) and search using the development environment for files on the local machine , or poke through the files in the server and manually search for a specific place in the code. So I want to ask, is it possible to find a line in a set of files on the server without downloading the entire project? Is it possible to find a file on the server by its name? How do developers do it in such a way that it does not take a lot of time? What development environment has this functionality? Thank you.
