How to scale Mac OS on an external screen?

There is an Apple MacBook Pro Retina (MF839RU/A) and an external monitor with a resolution of 2k connected via hdmi. But it's all too small. On the main screen of the laptop, scaling is easily changed, but how to scale (without changing the screen resolution) on an external monitor?
