How to safely download files from an infected laptop?

There is an infected laptop with about 50 GB of valuable information on it. There are a lot of viruses, so I want to demolish Windows completely. There is an external hard drive, but I do not dare to insert it into the laptop. Q: How can I safely download files?

Boot from any LIVE-CD or LIVE-FLASH, connect an external screw, copy files.
Wait a couple of weeks for antiviruses to come out with new updates, which will most likely include all the malware that was downloaded to the compromised computer.
Check the copied files with the latest versions of antiviruses, delete the remaining suspicious files.
Now you can format the laptop and restore the OS on it. This is due to the fact that in the process of treatment there is a possibility of losing something. As long as the original files are not destroyed, you can once again download from the LIVE media and pick up something.

Boot, for example, from Dr.Web LiveDisk, heal, then do whatever you want with the laptop.

Remove the disk (HDD) from the laptop, connect it to a stationary computer, connect the USB-HDD there, copy what you need, the disk into place in the laptop.
