How to roll back updates in ubuntu server?
There is an Ubuntu Server 14.04 server, it is in production, everything works well, and there was a desire to update some packages (mariadb, nginx, etc.), I understand that most likely there should be no problems and everything will work fine after that, but is it possible how then play it safe (make a backup of the current state of the system, or rather even all installed packages).
How can this be done, it comes to mind to archive the etc, opt, usr folders, but maybe the gurus will suggest a more correct option?

I will offer an option if LVM is used - you can take a snapshot and then carry out updates. In case of failure - roll back.
