How to restore mysql database from backup?

I got a site from a past system administrator without documentation and other information, recently the site was hacked and covered the entire mysql database. There are backups, but they have an extension in the form of the date they were created.
Can you please tell me how can I restore this database with such a backup, or convert it to a mysql file?
