How to respond to the application to transfer data to the sd card?

Good day!
The customer of the android application, on his Sony Xperia Z3 Compact Black (D5803) android 6.0 (API 23), called the "Transfer data to SD card" system function, which is located in Settings - memory - system.
The application after that, at least crashed, perhaps stopped working altogether.
Can you please tell me how this function works and how the application should react to its use?
