How to reset linux root password if grub menu is locked?

Good afternoon!
I "inherited" a server with Linux (CentOS). The root password was lost long ago and reliably. The server is standing, working, it does not ask for food. Admins are changing, no one before me needed a password. I wanted to reset the root password, I go into grub out of habit and see that the menu items are password-protected, I cannot edit them without knowing the password. Booting from third party media is VERY problematic for a number of reasons and would like to avoid it IF POSSIBLE. Are there any options to bypass the password without booting from another media?
