How to replace udev with openwrt?

Until recently, I used OpenWRT 15.05 (Chaos Calmer) firmware on a working TP-Link TL-WR842ND router, on which udev was installed and rules were configured for creating symlinks for connected usb printers. Everything worked fine until I updated OpenWRT to version 18.06.2, in which the udev package is no longer in the repository.
What can now replace udev to create symbolic links of devices, or to rename them according to given rules?
