How to replace the stream.onended event in webRTC?

As you know, the Chrome developers announced that the .onended event is deprecated and will be removed in October 2016, and instead of this decision, the active variable, which determines whether the stream is live or not, has been left.
But a variable is somewhat less than an event in terms of functionality, how can you achieve similar functionality without rewriting half of the code?
