How to remove the background from an image in Photoshop, make it transparent?

Folks, here's a picture! I want to cut out the object in the photo or somehow remove the white background of the picture so that the site does not have a white background, but only the background of the page itself! how to do it in photoshop or something else?

Create a new layer. Drop it to the very bottom. Make it transparent.
Move your picture to layer 1 and cut out what you need.
Then save to a file that supports transparency (png for example)
PROFIT!

Yep, it could be easier!
Just on the picture you want to remove the background, click with the Magic Wand tool on the background and with the Move tool move the same background elephant to make sure that you have selected the same layer (picture element) that you want (copy, cut or just delete) press the Delete button and that's it, there is NO background =) Next, save for the Web (I saved it in PNG-8 format) the "Transparency" checkbox is automatically checked if it's not there, I think it should be set =)
