How to reinstall Windows 8.1 without losing personal files after a critical error?
It was getting dark... The habitually open browser with the VKontakte tab open was replaced by a death screen with a sad emoticon, not as terrible a death screen as in previous versions of Windows, but, as it turned out, more unpleasant... After a reboot, the system did not boot. She tried to self-diagnose and self-treat, but it didn't work.
I tried booting in safe mode. Again failure. I began to study possible ways to download / restore / reinstall. None of the recovery methods work, including refresh.
Inserted the Windows 8.1 installation disc, tried to run a reinstall. To which the installation program told me something along the lines of "If you want to save the files, go to Windows and run the reinstallation from there." What kind of nonsense is that?? How can I reset the system??

When installing, select the Full installation option (not the update that prompts you to download).
After selecting the partition on which the system ALREADY stands, DO NOT DELETE and DO NOT FORMAT partitions!
At the end of the installation, the old system will be on the system disk in the windows.old folder
