How to record video in mp4 format?

By default , nginx rtmp module records video in .flv format if the record option is enabled, but .mp4
is needed. I found a way to convert video after recording using the exec_record_done callback and ffmpeg . Is it possible to record video initially in .mp4 format or at least convert it on the fly?
