How to record a video stream (for example, a webinar)?

Tell me, are there any programs that allow you to record video streams with sound on sites? It can be online courses, webinars, or just a broadcast on an online TV channel. Platform (flash, silverlight, media player, etc.) and format (H.264, *.flv, *.mov, etc.) are not known in advance.
It is highly desirable that during recording it would not be necessary to keep the browser page and the recording program open on top of other windows. It is also desirable that these be free programs or at least trial versions.
Thanks in advance.
Context: I have some important webinars coming up soon, but their timing is not very good. I would like to write them down and review them after work. The duration of each is 4-5 hours.

Wireshark, RTPdump and VLC can catch some types of streams, but from experience I can say that the success rate is much less than half.
It is most reliable to rob directly from the screen, while the window may not be active.

you still decide ... do you want to record a video stream or something directly from the site, that is, from the desktop?
if the first then VLC will solve the problem with a bang. if the second... then probably too... will be able to record from the screen.

I usually record all Internet traffic using the Network Monitor program. If it is not encrypted, then it is possible to collect the desired stream later and decode it.
