How to push a repo up a level in a directory?

Now git is included in C:\OSPanel\domains\mysite\application\frontend
Now we need to include both git and backend. Actually there are commands to go up to C:\OSPanel\domains\mysite with the addition of new files, while all the old commits from the frontend should be preserved?

Just make an application/frontend folder in the repository and move everything there (regular rename). History on files will be saved
