How to protect yourself?
Guys, I took on the project for the first time, to make a layout on freelance. I took half the price as an advance payment from the customer, now I have completed it and I want to show the finished layout, can I just upload it to the hosting and give it a link. Or is there a chance that he will be able to download it completely and run away without paying the rest of the amount?...

That is, he himself took half the money from the customer in advance (he risked that you would run away with the dough :), and now you are pressing to show the second half of the work? Somehow not good.
In addition, it doesn’t make much sense for the customer to disappear right now, because there are probably bugs in the layout, there will probably be comments - it’s more convenient for the author himself to correct it.
Just upload and show the code as is.
PS I do not take into account only cases if there were already some conflicts in the process of work and there are specific reasons to believe that problems are possible.
The best option (if you plan to do layout for a long time):
VPS with VNC / RDP access and several browsers installed on it in "kiosk " mode: you can climb, click, etc., but you can’t view the source code and pick up the working product (sample).
show your work on skype or teamviewer as described above.
From Myself I will add the following:
you can feed him with screenshots or shoot a video in 10k and 100500 fps. (Joke)
And most importantly, always negotiate the final process of transferring Your Work to the Client and Receiving your honestly earned money - Before work begins
taking into account the fact that the customer has already paid half, he needs to warm his head, as it were, to protect himself, and not to you.
