How to protect a site from copying?
Hello. I came across such a case that when demonstrating the layout, the customer simply either ordered people to copy the site via HTTPTrack, or copied it himself, as a result - no payment.
Actually, the question is, is it possible to somehow protect your work from copying?
If it makes no sense to invent a bicycle for small projects, then for large ones (like the one on which they threw me), you can invent a bicycle in order to secure it.
UPD. For example, some themeforest users have been successful in securing their themes. As far as I understand, in the script file there is a request to a remote server, and remote requests are accepted only if the request comes from a specific IP, otherwise it is refused.

Demonstration from the screen via Skype is an unambiguous solution. Why? Because simple.
Unless, of course, you work with a cool manager with the wildest experience in development - the solution is so-so, he will beat you for everything and about everything, and test and kick, and so on. However, you can also try to teach an ordinary person about virtual machines, kiosks, teamviewers, servers, and that you can actually get to the site not only from Yandex. But do you need it ?
Teaching a customer is a thankless task. If the customer WANTS to learn - hold on to him with both hands. Usually your attempt to teach him something is perceived as show-off, and reduces your value as a professional. The main thing - in no case do not do it on his hosting. You don't have to look far for an example - when directors and officials need something, they don't cry out for love, they just kill those who interfere with them. So here, while you are "playing business" - he is kind, there is an opportunity to throw you - they will throw you. People have changed. Very much.
When you try to whine - warning him, but politely and gently, they say, I'm sorry, I'm still so used to it at my last job
Second attempt - whining - justify that you have a principle
Third attempt - take out the brain with an explanation of your position
Fourth attempt - throw it at the loot
If he does not pay, but already whines - by the way, you can use this as a reason. Well, like you don’t pay - what kind of work is there on your hosting, they say we are not friends at all.
More confidence, realize that the only goal of the neo-businessman is to make dough. Awareness will come with time when they throw you 20 times in your life. While they threw it 2-3 times, injustice still infuriates, then it will pass, you will understand that there are sensible people - you go to any lengths for them, but there are smart-assed ones, after a while you start to detect them.
In general, no way.
Demonstrate layout from your laptop, and then take it with you?
Remove the sample from access immediately after the demonstration?
Screw one-time access codes to each page?
All of the above brings more problems than benefits, as it seems to me.
Smart tips. But it's not really like that!).
1. I understand that you need to sign a contract! Not the fact that with a prepayment or advance! But!!!!! The contract clearly indicates the stages of work.
2. The first stage is the receipt of technical specifications from the customer. We sign the paper that we received!
3. Design approval. Stage two! Paper!!! We sign on the screenshots and put comments. At the second stage, the customer, under the contract, is obliged to transfer part of the dough! The percentage is negotiated, but not less than 30.
4. Stage three. The layout of the working site. Rdp saves perfectly. After signing the papers on closing the stage .... we are waiting for at least 40% more on the account!
5. Stage four with filling the site. We sign the papers that we have received everything that needs to be placed and sculpt the final product.
6. Placement of the site on the customer's hosting. And here I don’t care when and how the payment will be made. We can easily get part of the amount through the court. Since on hand all the papers on the passage of stages.
If the customer goes to a meeting and is ready to pay all at once ... I would not recommend it! Works badly! Prepayment affects both the delivery and the eternal editing of jambs. If at some
stage the payment did not go through .... we transfer to the customer by registered mail everything that was done and WHAT IS PAID!)
Breaking down into amounts is good, first of all, for the customer himself!!! Not so traumatic for the psyche is a large payment upon the performance of a service!
We have already discussed how to show a Skype video with layout as an option
Perhaps, as an option, convert html to another format for viewing, like chm or pdf, or maybe into pictures.
Google:
html to pdf
html to chm
html to jpg
you might find something useful.
You can try to use React + Webpack, pack all the content in bundle.js - and let him pick it himself))
Alternatively, do it through an intermediary.
For example, we always order such services through a "secure deal" on fl.ru. Service commission 10-15% depending on the amount + 13% personal income tax, if the performer is from Russia. Therefore, it is more profitable for us to be a freelancer from Ukraine or Belarus =))
As a contractor, it will be difficult for you to persuade the customer for + 10-25% of his budget. Here, either immediately raise the cost of services, or offer to split in half. By the way, when we order through a "safe deal", about half of the freelancers agree to split the amount of the deal increase in half.
As a result, everyone is protected, no one takes a steam bath, and if any party fails to meet deadlines, the other party quickly receives money through service arbitration.
In general, the output is either an excellent result, everything is according to the TOR and on time and everyone is satisfied, or the absence of financial losses for the Customer (a couple of times we were just for shitty layout and did not comply with the TOR and beat off the prepayment in full) and the Contractor.
What is the problem to conclude a contract with the customer, no matter the individual or individual entrepreneur. Otherwise, if he tries to steal your work, you will easily beat off the loot from him. Like, you worked on making a website for him on the basis of a contract, and he took and fucked you. If he doesn’t like something and the contract says something else and he refuses the work you have done, you just take 50℅ from the amount of the entire site, that’s all I have always done and will do, the most effective way. And if it is expensive or he does not like your services. Forward for cheap stuff, a freelancer orders a shitty site.
Install TeamViewer and let it poke the site on the local server.
