How to properly organize monitoring of a Kubernetes cluster using external Prometheus?

Good afternoon!
There is a Kubernetes cluster that needs to be monitored. There is a server with Prometheus/Alertsmanager/Grafana not in a cluster. To monitor the cluster using the cluster itself seems wrong to me. There are several solutions -
1. Setting up direct access to the REST API
2. with Advisor + kube-metric
3. Prometheus federation = Prometheus as under K8s + working external Prometheus.
