How to properly cut svg?

The problem with cutting sprites in svg. Layouts come in PSD, icons are vector smart objects. When you click in the layers of Photoshop, an illustrator with this icon opens, but all the time when you export from it, the icons turn out to be just rectangles filled with color. I have no idea why this could be. I have already smoked a bunch of manuals, watched video tutorials, do everything exactly the same, but in the end it doesn’t work out.
Tell us how you make icons?
