How to properly configure vps+vpn and access it remotely via ssh?

Good afternoon toasters! The situation is the following.
There is vps, on it vpn (pptp). When vpn is not connected to vps, then I connect to vps from my computer and manage it via ssh without any problems. It is worth turning on vpn, all vps pts are locked, but not torn. I turn it off - everything is fine again. Tried openvpn - same thing.
I read that maybe gre is the culprit, but then openvpn seems to be working. I haven't tried anything with masquerades, I haven't added any rules to iptables. Advise something or direct (only nearby). The systems are both ubuntu (14.04-vps and 13.10).

The return route is not registered?
