How to properly attach django-hitcount to a project?

I can't figure out the Django-hitcount module https://github.com/thornomad/django-hitcount
As I understand it, out of the box there are 4 methods for counting the number of page views. Can someone show how to include one of them using an example of a simple project? Tried to poke example_project, did not help at all. Long story short, please help.
