How to promote a web designer portfolio site?

Hello!
Four months ago I made my portfolio site with my work (web design).
It looked like one main page, on which previews of works are located, when clicked, the picture simply enlarges.
It was convenient to throw a portfolio to the customer, which is located on their own website, rather than on some kind of “freelance”. But soon I thought that I need to promote this site, look for new customers with its help. And recently I completely changed the design and structure of the site - now on the main page there is also a preview, only in the form of a logo, icons and other elements that associate the site, a title explaining what kind of work it is and a link to a page with this work. Where the title goes, big layout. Also added a few more pages such as Services, Contacts and Blog (which is under development). I have little skills in website promotion (internal optimization, purchasing links through SeoPult, registration in directories).
But how can I promote my site, which covers such a wide range of topics as web design and not only (web design is the main focus, but also layout, turnkey website, application design), I also don’t want to touch on any particular region, I want to expand my services on a larger scale.
What would you advise at the initial stage of promoting such a site? Naturally with minimal or at least reasonable costs.

Combine it with a blog, publish the current workflow - describe the tasks you face in everyday life and how you solve them. Roughly speaking, start such an "online diary" for yourself, and give the opportunity to discuss your activities. Users will start up themselves, because one task in one head, at the same time is not solved ...
For you, this is a free source of motivation and criticism.
For customers - a great way to evaluate your work, as well as track trends in personal development, to get an idea of the overall prospect of cooperation.

as for promotion - through seo it will be expensive. If you position yourself as a frontend, look for contacts with backenders. A hundred times in contact in groups I met "we are looking for a frontend". And as a rule, they are looking for in groups where they themselves sit. Therefore, make a list of server technologies, look for their groups in contact and throw your ad
