How to prevent Chrome browser from switching focus to itself?

Can you please tell me how to prevent the Google Chrome browser from switching focus when opening new tabs? Tabs creates a self-written extension. Ideally, I would like to open new tabs in the background at all, without switching focus to them. Is it possible to change the behavior of window.open() via chrome configs?
