How to partition a Windows disk while saving data?

I want to install Linux on a laptop, but I would like to try it first so that the ability to boot Windu is preserved. The trick with disk compression gives only 6 GB, this is clearly not enough. Whereas there are 57 gigs of free disk space. Is it possible somehow from under Windows or from under Linux installed on a USB flash drive - bite off a piece of hard to install Linux? Or, again, from under Linux, save the disk image to a third-party screw, so that later it could be restored, in case I decide to return to Windows?
Tell me, pliz, the corresponding free software.

gparted (Linux), Partition Magic (Windows) resize partitions.

AOMEI Partition Assistant from free.
Naturally, before such operations, it does not hurt to have a backup of the system disk on external media, the easiest way is in the form of an image, and a recovery flash drive. Especially if you are still going to experiment with dualboot. The image can again be made free by AOMEI Backupper.

To "try" use any LiveCD, every distribution has one.
