Instagram in this regard is trying very hard to put spokes in the wheels, but you can pick up your account through the usual API with minimal permissions https://www.instagram.com/developer/endpoints/users/
The only pitfall is that you need a "live" authorization with confirmation from the user every time the token goes bad.
